Equinox Kiss of Death

Quote de Jour
"Then summer fades and passes and October
Comes. We'll smell smoke then,
and feel an unexpected sharpness,
a thrill of nervousness, a swift elation,
a sense of sadness and departure."

~ Thomas Wolfe

I could pretend it's still summer. It's warm and sunny. Breakfast and paper on the porch as usual but death is all around me. Summer flowers hang their heads, limp with surrender. I know it's what I must do too. To surrender to a new season but first let me drink the dregs of summer. Instead of writing, I'm lying in a hammock soaking in the sun's rays, watching: early bird leaves turning crisp and golden, the sky, a deeper blue with dabs of cobalt, herbs going to seed, Canada geese flying south. Soon it'll be time for socks but for now, I wiggle my toes at the sun and breathe in the bittersweet.

Loved the Thomas Wolfe quote. I tried to read him once but put the book down. Perhaps I was too young! I'll try again.

It's still summer here. Yesterday, it got up to 92. Today is down to 85.

That picture is neat and the writing that goes along with it is wonderful.
