2.67 Pounds of Prevention

What would you take out of a burning building? I used to say, my cats and old family photo albums. After what happened yesterday, I've changed my mind. Mercury is still in Retrograde playing havoc with communications and all things techie. Computer acting squirrelly? But of course. This time, it hit a new high or maybe a low. Every time I tried to open any Word doc. pertaining to my novel, Peace, Love and Chocolate, it would open my Picasa software. Nothing helped. I knew the files were backed up somewhere but being the techno-dodo that I am, I didn't know where. Instead, I e-mailed a friend whom I'd previously sent the ms. to. She sends it back to me in an attachment and whammo, the doc. opens in Picasa, again. I am not amused.
It's a running joke in my family, that computer gremlins love me. If anything wierd can happen, it happens to me.

Last night, hubby shows me the miracle of miracles, my external hard drive. I know he installed it months ago but I've scarcely looked at its sleek, stainless steel body. I know he regularly backs things up for me but it was time for me to take resposibility and get friendly with my mysterious new friend from http://store.iomega.com
The ms. file opened like magic. What would I take out of a burning building now? My cats and my new best friend, my external hard drive (which contained all my old, family albums, scanned).

LOL... Something had to give eventually. Glad you've got that settled though. I can just picture you now... smoke-filled air and the sound of sirens... a smudgy Layla with yowling cat carriers in one hand and her trusty external hard drive in the other breaking free from the building just before flames take it over. My hero. wishing you laughter

Quinn, thanks this made my day!

I would definitely take kids, cats and computer. My husband tells me of a free back up service. I need to ask more about this, as we have 1,000s of photos and documents.

    Kathryn,
That's exactly it. You wouldn't want to lose thousands of photos. There are lots of options.
