What I'm Reading This Week # 4

Quote de jour
"We should read to give our soul a chance to luxuriate."
                                                                      ~ Henry Miller
Yes indeed, or is reading a necessary luxury? Who has time to read? I need to read as much I as need to breathe. It becomes a question of priorities. Less television, less gossiping, less perfection. Okay, so I'm not the greatest housekeeper. Exhibit A: I found this yesterday, outside my office window. This spiderweb reminds me of the perfection of imperfection. If I had been anally cleaning the house inside out, it would not have had the chance to form. It provided inspiration for this photograph, which in turn inspired writing. Funny how things come full circle.

This week at my library, I ran in last minute and grabbed a stack of magazines. Normally, I order the books I like to read online. They had a backlog, so I ran up to the shelves of the newest books. "It's closing time," the librarian said. In twenty seconds, I scanned the shelved and selected two novels.(see below). The authors may not be happy to hear of my random method of selection. Then, again maybe they might be or at least their publisher's marketing department.

Of all the books there, what attracted me to these? Remember, all I could see were the spines. Color is always #1 for me. I love the Tiffany blue of Attachment by Isobel Fonseca. #2 would be the author name and/or book's title.  I was intrigued a novel titled The Various Flavors of Coffee by Anthony Capella, #3 I scanned the book jacket copy. Whoops, time's up. I grabbed these two. I loved the gorgeous covers. If I'd had more time I would have I read the first page and looked for an author photo. (That's just the photographer in me).Tsk, tsk, Mr. Capella , why no photo? And, Ms. Fonseca, why the extreme body language in yours? Both arms crossed over your lap like don't come near me. Hmmm, I'll let you know if you can tell a book by it's cover...

Thanks for the reminder about how important reading is. I used to continually have a book in my hand or near by no matter what I was doing. The computer takes up some of that reading time now. I'm going to go and find a good book though.
As far as a book's cover letting you know whether or not it is a good read, it may catch your interest but boring book covers can hide amazing stories.

LOL, Faith. I've suckered by a pretty cover more than once

I used to read a lot of magazines when I first started in journalism, having read few magazines, but I rarely read them any more. I find books to be so much more satisfying.
