Halloween Week
Quote de jour
"Fear has many eyes and can see things underground."
~Miguel Cervante from Don Quixote
It's Halloween week and on it's all about the spooky, creepy and ghoulish here. Every day this week, I'll conjure up some of my spookiest photos including one of a real ghost. No, I'm not joking. On Saturday, November the 1st, we'll celebrate the day of the dead or Dia de los Muertos with the best Halloween themed kitty photo for Cat of the Week.
Every year, the holiday grows more popular. Nearby, a closed Barnes and Noble turned into a pumpkin over night. Okay, well, a bright orange Halloween superstore. Most homes are decked out with decorations ranging from the subtle and tasteful pumpkins, gourds and mums to the full out creepy, front lawn extravaganzas. Fake cemeteries, cobwebs, skeletons and flying witches compete with haunted house music and flashing orange lights. When did Halloween become a Las Vegas version?

I prefer the real thing, including calling Halloween by its real name of Samhain (pronounced sow-wen). For thousands of years this holiday marked the pagan new year and third harvest festival. It was and continues to be a time to honor our dead ancestors.
From a young age, I've felt drawn to cemeteries and Pagan earth-based religions. For many years, I've photographed cemeteries all around the world. They offer a fascinating range of architecture, history and culture. I'll be sharing some examples and few stories too. I hope you stop back, if you dare and feel free to forward this to your friends.
