Nature's Legacy
Quote de jour
"Autumn is a season immediately followed by looking forward to spring."
For someone with hearty, Canadian/Finnish/Swedish/Russian blood, I'm a cold weather wimp. You will not find me on the ski slopes or ice fishing any time soon. How to brave the elements? Let me count the ways... silk long johns, down-filled coats. No fur. (The animals needs their own coats), my favorite shearling Elmer Fudd hat, boiled wool socks... The only thing I'll risk freezing my ass off for is a good photograph.
The fiery leaves in this photo de jour have fallen, dead and swept away by brisk winds. All that remains is a memory. It's especially poignant since some of my best autumn foliage shots were taken in local cemeteries. The Jewish cemetery depicted in this collage is my favorite. Unfortunately, in the interest of discretion for the families of the dead, the public will never see the best photographs taken there. The Zen poem by Ryokan sums up my feelings of what and who we leave behind. Do you think about what your legacy will be? Or, do you not care?

I am finding that I am so very cold this winter. Have a faux mink and I need to break out the cashmere sox and T necks to keep me warm. So very cold.

Hi!
u
I would gush about the gorgeous trees but I have a tragically broken right wrist - both arm bones, 5 places - so will save that for later. Fortunately, I got the book (http://tinyurl.com/6x5ho2 ) out the door a couple of weeks before the fall. (Picture me doing a very gentle happyDance...)
The site is lovely, and rather in the balm for the soul category. I'm off to look at more trees and fluffy kitties.
Have a great Thanksgiving!
