Be the change you want to be in the world

To get into the Thanksgiving Day spirit, I meditated on what this holiday is really all about.
I confess to being grumpy and not in the mood to bake pies, let alone meditate. Who has
time to deep breathe with a to-do list longer than Santa's beard? And Christmas is what...
only 28 days away? I silenced my inner slave driver and closed my eyes. It's at our busiest
and crazed, do we most need the gift of peace. In the few seconds of inner stillness, I
received the biggest gift and it wasn't a 25 lb. turkey. Graditude and giving thanks begins
with treating ourselves with kindness. Will I be a better friend, or more loved if I bake one
less pie? It's better to bake one pie with love than a dozen with anger.

This multi-exposure photograph is a self-portrait with a Buddha at the Redfern Museum taken this past
summer in Montreal. I can only pray that a fragment of the Buddha's wisdom rubbed off on me.

I Love that quote, and think about it quite often. Today at work, some co-workers treated a regular customer poorly working him up to quite a rage really... because he is prejudiced against our African American employees. Personally, I couldn't help thinking that their choice to treat him poorly was not a good one because it does not allow for positive change. "How people treat us is their Karma. How we respond is ours." Wayne Dyer, but this one about being the change you want to see is even more direct. Thanks for the timely reminder! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving, my friend.

    wishing you the usual
