Venice is Drowning

Venice is a spiritual home to many artists and writers, myself included. I feel saddened and helpless as I watch images of the La Serenissima flooded. Sea levels rose 61 inches-- a level not seen since 1986, and the fourth highest level in a century. Hello, global warming. Tourists are wading up to their thighs and the mayor is urging everyone to stay indoors. It's beginning to recede but more slowly than in the past, which is worrisome to conservationists. The floodgate project aimed at stopping the rising tides and saving further damage to the buildings, is slated to be completed in the next four years. Maybe. It's a controversial project that has locals and foreigners alike, up in arms.

This is so sad to see, yes, Global warming is the culprit. My husband was there a year ago and it was not at all bad, like this.
