Cat Saturday # 17 -- First 'Cat of the week' of 2009!
Quote de jour
" If there is ever one spot of sun spilling onto the floor, a cat will find it and soak it up."
~Joan Asper McIntosh
It's a whole new year of Cat Saturdays. For cat lovers, every day is a cat day full of feline pleasures.
Cat of the Week
Robin is a handsome, green-eyed Canadian kitty who lives with Ann Brightman, the managing editor of Animal Wellness & Feline Wellness http://wwwredstonemediagroup.com
He wasn't always the happy cat soaking up the sun according to Ann, "Eleven years ago, we lost two dogs and a cat in the space of three months. The house felt unbearably empty and bleak, without an animal in it. We were only able to bear it for two weeks, before heading to the local shelter for a new fur person to love. We adopted two kittens, Robin and Renny. Robin had been found by shelter staff hiding under a car, frightened and dirty. He remained a very timid kitty in his new home. He spent the first few days hiding under my bed while renny tried to coax him out to play. Robin had the saddest, most plaintive meow when he was young-- it broke my heart every time I heard it. We think he must have been abused, or at least mishandled as a kitten as he was very scared of strangers and cringed if you put your hand towards him too quickly. Luckily, he blossomed under our care and is a plump and happy senior who enjoys basking in the sun, eating, and being petted and brushed. Robin is still frightened of strangers, but is very affectionate and happy with us."
I'm a big believer in adopting cats in pairs. In the spirit of fairness, I'll be featuring Robin's brother Renny next week. I'm also a big believer in spaying/neutering. Hey, it's not rocket science. We wouldn't have over-flowing shelters, if everyone spayed/neutered their pets.
On another (embarrassing) note, my senior Siamese kitty siblings, Merlin and Coco are spayed and neutered but Merlin still thinks he's the Lion King. About once a week, at bedtime (it's always at bedtime) Merlin indulges in his version of brotherly love. It's sad and funny. He has no idea what to do with his 'equipment' but chomps on Coco's neck like a vampire. Coco likes it until the action turns nasty. Merlin growls like a jungle beast. Really. I'd film it but don't want to add kitty porn director on my resume. Coco's blood curdling meows pierce the air until either she or I initiate cattus interruptus. What a life!

Our two boys play and fight like that. Boys will be boys.

I had to leave, earlier.
Robin is such a wonderful kitty.
Regarding Merlin and Coco, it is
FOOTBALL.
Male bonding, and yes, I think they get confused, too about their 'urges.'
Our former female kitty, Emma Peel RIP
1972 - 1992 always raised her back to 'rut'
And Cheddar does, too.
Mao licks Cheddar and grooms him. Cheddar grooms Mao. Mao sniffs Cheddar's butt. Cheddar returns favor.
Mao bites Ched's neck. Mao swats at Ched. Ched lies on back, defending himself. Mao climbs on top and swats and fights.
Ched runs away.
Cheddar of course, is two pounds bigger than Mao.
But Mao, being the Tux, is the adventurous one.
But I think Ched's conflict about his brother always dominating him causes him psychological distress, and I think that is why he chews his belly fur, so that his skin shows through.

That's too funny. Yeah, the soccer hooligans of football. Are you sure Cheddar and Mao aren't gay?

Yes indeed, Robin looks VERY well fed. ;o) He is what my veterinarian friend refers to as a "meatloaf".
Great little photo essay of the "kids".
But where's Domino?
