Wrestling The Four Truths
Quote de jour
Obama (excuse me, President Obama) talked yesterday about rolling up our sleeves and getting to work. We each have a role to play in our individual lives but also in the larger sense of the word. Each of us have a gift and life purpose. It's up to us to find it and share it. Yesterday, I bounced along on the wave of jubilation. In the evening, I went to see the Golden Globe winning Darren Aronofsky film, The Wrestler starring Mickey Rourke, in the comeback performance of the year. What does this have to do with finding your gift? For me, the film is about what happens when you make mistakes and don't learn from them. It's a painful and ugly cautionary tale of saying no to love, of not listening to the truth. The winner is Mickey Rourke, who found his gift early in his career as an actor, thumbed his nose at it and fell from grace. This film is his redemption. A second chance.
Perhaps you've found your gift. Lucky you. Share it. Grow it. Perhaps you're still looking. Ask for help, inside and outside yourself and keep looking. Perhaps you found your gift but lost it. Nothing is ever lost. Only the form changes. Your second chance awaits.
Every day, I marvel in the lessons that come my way. Often, I feel like the battered wrestler, but the tempering of steel makes it strong. I'm getting ready for my second chance. Stay tuned...

The Four Noble Truths according to the Buddha are:
1) Life means suffering. ( Life is imperfect and impermanent)
2) The origin of suffering is attachment.( Craving or clinging to the transient: material things, fame, wealth, prestige.)
3) Cessation of suffering is possible. ( By the removal of the causes of attachment, i.e. desire.)
4) The Eight fold or middle path stops suffering. ( A gentle, gradual path self-improvement of ethical, conduct & wisdom.
My lesson today is to outwit desire. What's yours? My lesson tomorrow will likely be the same LOL but I'm focusing on today.
