What I'm Reading This Week - March 1, 2009
Quote de jour
"The mark of a good novel is dreading to begin the last chapter."
I can't say, that's happened to me lately. Instead, I've been content with some excellent non-fiction.
Magazines touted optimism shrouded doom and gloom. Yes, how do we make lemonade out of a lemon of an economy?

Yay, Kate Moss( on the cover of New York) has put on some pounds. It's the worst time to open a retail store in New York, but Kate is forging ahead. It does help having a billionaire backer. In April, we will have our very own Top Shop, her runaway success clothing line based in London. Good style on the cheap. Sounds good to me.

Michael Pollan's follow up book to his best seller, The Omnivore's Dilemma is In Defense of Food. It's not as good.
I like the premise of a novel written entirely in letters by two writers,
Luanne Rice and her husband Joseph Monninger. It's titled, (what a surprise) The Letters. I've just started, so far, it's so so.

I leave the best for last. Thank God for frizzy-haired genius, Malcolm Gladwell's latest: Outliers -- The story of Success. It's as good as his other best sellers: Blink and The Tipping Point. To learn more, his website is worth checking out. The simply brilliant and brilliantly simple http://www.malcolm.com

The food book, the letters book and the Gladwell book greatly interest me.
Kate Moss..well, I won't go there.
My family stuck in Savannah for two days. Tornado warning, cold, rain. Snow emergency here tomorrow.
Been inside for 3 days, writing, happy as a clam.
My boys say hi to your three kitties.

As both an international marketer and ferocious reader I can say Malcolm is a brilliant author. Loved his past 2 books. Thanks for the heads up on this one...
