Cat Saturday # 29 -- The Cat Who came in From The Cold
Due to tech problems this Cat Saturday is late and all the text is a hyperlink to the link of the Week. My apologies. My Web host Godaddy.com is working on it.

"The cat does not negotiate with the mouse."
It's spring and my cats have spring fever. They are demanding to be let out first thing in the morning and are sniffing all those new green things in the garden. The moist earth must be a smorgasbord of scents for them. Both Merlin and Coco are wandering about shell shocked at the sudden warmth and thinking , "Where did all the snow go?" A more likely scenario is Merlin wondering if my feral outdoor cat Domino is going to beat him up.

Merlin on the hunt. Dazed and confused Coco.
I thought this looked promising truce. Merlin eyeing Domino at close range with no hissing. Domino is as fat as ever and with one thing on his mind...

There are indoor cats, outdoor cats and then there is Shia, an in between cat who happens to be our Cat of the Week.

Shia is a tuxedo short hair who lives in Teaneck, New Jersey. He's a big, shy boy with beautiful markings and an enterprising spirit.
He used to belong to people who neglected him and forced him to stay outdoors even on the coldest winter nights. Shia soon reveled in the kindness of strangers across the street with Steve, Erika and their daughter Sophia. Free meals soon plumped up the thin kitty and his spirit soared from the sorely needed attention. He went from being an outdoor cat to an in between cat with a comfortable sun room as his domain. This is an ideal situation whether humans with cat allergies can have the best of both worlds.
According to Steve, Shia new caretaker, "Shia is about four years old. His original name given by his first owners was Ocean-Born which we felt was pretty silly. We call him Shia because he is shy with
people he doesn't know but super affectionate with us. We were friendly with Shia's biological mother, Nightwish who sadly died from a fight with a raccoon. After that, Shia began spending more time with us. His folks across the street said Shia was pre-diabetic and peed in the house, so they made him live outside through several harsh winters. I eventually built a cat door to our sun porch which he's made his home. He comes and goes as he pleases, but it's clear he lives with us now. The original owners have moved away and this year Shia officially became our cat. And he's a mouser. Just this past Wednesday he greeted me with the gift of a dead mouse."
Don't you just love happy endings? Not all cats are so lucky. Spring is in the air and that means more kittens. So, if you have any unspayed or un-neutered cats, get thee to a vet A.S.A.P.
Which brings up to our Cat Link of the Week. To find out about free or low costspay/neuter in your State, please go to www.lovethatcat.com

Like many cat lovers, I collect cat art. This is a little reproduction sculpture from an ancient Eypyptian cat goddess Bastet.

I love all of it. I am very familiar with tech problems.
Glad to see Domino looking so healthy.
And Shia is a beauty.
And Eqyptian cat sculpures. Gorgeous. Well, we can blame every catlike thing on the Eqyptians. Cats never forgot they are GODS.
