Cat Saturday # 30--Spring Fever!
Quote de jour
"In these days of tension, human beings can learn a great deal about relaxation from watching a cat, who doesn't just lie down when it's time rest, but pours his body on the floor and rests in every nerve and muscle."
~Murray Robinson
My cats, Merlin and Coco do not travel well, so I'm always impressed with cats who do, like Missy, our delightful
Cat of the week.

Missy, a gray short hair tabby with a distinctive white nose will be four years old in September. She was born to travel. First on weekends to the Poconos and later to a move to Myrtle Beach where she now lives with two humans and one feline named Fuzzy (also a previous Cat of the Week). According to her human mom, Gloria, Missy was adopted from The Persnickety Cat store in the Pocono Mountains. "Persnickety was one of our favorite stores to walk through when we spent our vacations in the mountains since everything in there store had a cat theme. As we drove by one particular weekend we noticed a huge banner add tied up across the front window which read "Yes We Have Kittens Ready For Adoption". This was the first we knew of them providing this service. They were now taking in a few cages of kittens and cats who were up for adoption through the local shelter. So we made a U-turn and went to check them out. Our last Himalayan cat Andy had passed in January and we were ready for a new little kitty to fill the void, so we just wanted to look at the new little ones. Being so far from home, we didn't have any intention of adopting, just looking."
Famous last words.
"We went over to the cages of kittens, I took out a little black and white kitty and Larry took out Missy. We had our fun playing, oohing and awing over their cuteness and went to put our kitties back into their cage. Well, mine went back just fine, but Missy, no way was she going back into that cage. Faster than you can blink an eye, Missy was out of that cage and hanging onto the front of Larry's jacket for dear life. Three times he tried to put her back and three times she was attached to his chest. What to do. We had nothing cat related at the mountain house, but we couldn't get her back into the cage either. So it was decided it must be meant to be, Missy was going home with us. Missy in a little carrier box, I never saw one so small, off to the store to buy the few necessities we would need until we got home.
Missy is so sweet, calm and smart. She understands everything we say. She loves her bed (until recently when the fleas came to visi, her original octopus toy we bought on adoption day, (it's her baby), her treats in the morning and after dinner, and us of course. She tolerates Fuzzy, he's twice the size of her at a whooping 16 pounds, but she stands her ground.
Her most unusual quirk, she won't drink water out of a bowl. If you place a bowl of water on the floor she pushes it all over, spilling the water all over the floor and making a mess. She prefers her water straight from the spigot or sink. It has to be fresh too, she knows if the water in the sink isn't fresh and will meow her fool head off until we come and put fresh water in the sink. Sometimes that isn't even good enough and within seconds of us leaving the bathroom she's meowing again. She wants it out of the spigot this time. She such a sweetie though, anything goes if it makes her happy. So there you have it, our little fur ball is a sheer delight bringing us smiles, happiness and love each and every day."
It's spring fever over at my house. Domino is battle-scarred having survived another winter outdoors but happy, especially when sunbathing in the flower beds or playing peek-a-boo. I know he's feeling better when he cleans his paws to laundry fresh white.

Merlin goes out every chance he gets but is requiring more supervision. His vision is not what it used to be. Coco is scared of Domino, our outdoor feral and won't go out unless supervised. In fact, since the cats are getting elderly, they rely on a step stool to get into bed. They can still jump, but their days of leaping onto counter tops and tall fences are over.

This was taken on their step stool in the dark. It's every pet parent's heartbreak, to see their beloved kitties growing old, but what can you do but try and make their lives more comfortable?

Missy is so pretty and glad to see Domino doing well. I will bet he is very happy to be in Spring now.
Coco and Merlin are always gorgeous.
That fishing cat is hilarious.
We finally have crocuses and daffs.

I love the pic of Domino in the bushes!
That is gorgeous.
I enjoyed hearing about Missy. My China joined our family under similar circumstances. A local shelter had their animals out in front of Pet Smart and I saw her, held her and couldn't leave. An hour later my husband said 'It's up to you.' I love my kitties and love hearing about others every Sat on your blog.

Indeed we can learn a lot from cats. I've got the napping part down that's for sure. LOL
