Cat Saturday # 34 - Cats & Dogs & Fish Oh My!

Quote de jour
"The cat pretends to sleep that it may see more clearly..."

News & Mews
Some sad news. Ivan the beautiful Siamese and Cat of the Week # 26 passed away suddenly on May 5th. He was 17 years- old. May he happy, and have unlimited catnip in kitty heaven.

For anyone who has elderly cats, it's an
ongoing concern even if their health is fine. I worry constantly about how much longer will they live? Am I doing all that I can? Can I afford the insane costs of high tech treatments or surgeries? Merlin and Coco are going to be 15 this year. They're doing well, but it's like living with a couple of doddering old folks. Their vision is going and the yowling in non-stop, especially by Merlin. The vet actually suggested sedatives like Xanax! Last week, Merlin experienced the two things he hates most in the world:driving in cars and visiting the vet. I'll call it Merlin's not so excellent adventure. For many years we enjoyed the ease and convenience of vet house calls, but vet retired and we reluctantly visited the closest animal hospital. If this last visit is any indication of things to come, I'm praying to find another vet who makes house calls without usurious fees.

Thank God, the vet is a three minute drive away, but with Merlin screaming like a banshee it felt like three days.

Merlin hates being enclosed in any kind of carrier. This bag works best.

Merlin is a good patient and the vet thought he was handsome. Once home, Merlin wasted no time discussing the gory details with feral kitty,Domino.

There's new kitty in my neck of the woods and he/she is our Cat of the Week. That's right, I don't know the gender. I first noticed this feral cat streak past the house a few times last year. Usain Bolt the runner had nothing on this cat. All I could see were white socks and the size and silhouette of a teen kitty. When I didn't spot him/her all winter, I thought the worst. Feral cats don't live long. I spotted him/her again in the spring, but this kitty was too fast for my camera. Then, yesterday while driving down our long drive way, I managed to capture these pic of the kitty from the car. He/she (please don't be pregnant!) looking larger, healthy and all grown up. The last thing I want is another cat but...

Meanwhile, the rain has turned Domino's scruffy winter coat glossy again. He doesn't mind the rain, and I beginning to think he truly has nine lives. Even his nasty scars on his nose are healing. But, I spotted yet another new cat yesterday skulking in the bushes. With summer looming ahead, stay tuned for the latest adventures...here every Saturday.
