Westchester Wednesdays -- Unsung Heroes

Quote de jour
"On a human level, the garbage man is just as important as the teacher or a rock star or a president, because you have to have them. The world would have been dead a long time ago without garbage men."
                                                                                                                                              ~Herbie Hancock

I had planned to feature the sweet owners of a special shop today, but found a note posted on their door: Gone until the end of the month. No matter, it never takes long for inspiration to strike. I walked up a hilly street and found a profusion of lavender  rivaling Provence.

And then, I spotted them: my heroes of the day. A driver and two garbage men simply doing their job. I felt filled with gratitude. It was gorgeous June day, and they seemed to enjoy the breeze on their t-shirts.
But what about those sub-zero days, or pelting rain, or sun melting stinky days in August? I hear them sometimes early in the morning, too early for me to crack an eyelid, let alone wave and say hi. I do bake cookies for them at Christmas, but  today I was happy to see their faces and wave, thank-you. They deserve a smile and our respect every day.

And today, some flowers...from my garden.

Even though my daughter and I do not like the lavendar fragrance, (we must be weird), I always wave to the garbage men, who do, indeed deserve much more respect, money and smiles than they get.

You are a true friend to many.
