What I'm Reading This Week -- July 19, 2009
Quote de jour
"Reading is the sole means by which we slip, involuntarily, often helplessly, into another's skin, another's voice, another's soul." ~Joyce Carol Oates
I love that quote from one of my favorite and insanely prolific writers. Now, if only I could switch gears from being an insanely prolific reader to a proflific writer. I stepped into the library on Friday with trepidation. The online book ordering system was down and I had no idea how many books had arrived. Sometimes it's one or none, often two or three and this week (cue the violins) six novels including a monster-sized book on vampires, the best-seller: The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
Then there are the magazines. I missed going last week and had a record number to make up for my gap.The librarian scanned each one while a new assistant stared with round eyes at the sheer volume. "I'm sorry, you've come to your maximum number allowed." What? You mean no Nat Geo and half a dozen others? Just as well. I need to sleep occaisonally. Best cover bar none or should I say bare, Is comedian Sacha Baron Cohen AKA Bruno on GQ starkers. I can't wait to see the film. Must run. I have some light reading to do. Enjoy the jacket copy and designs. Isn't it amazing how different each cover desgn is, and why it appeals to you or not. This week, it's all about current best sellers except The Historian a best seller from 2005. The ultimate beach book is A Summer Affair by Elin Hilderbrand. Her website about her books and Nantucket makes me want to jump on a plane and have a clam bake on the beach. http://www.elinhilderbrand.net Ready? Set? Scroll!

I was just on the Vineyard, my preferred place to Nantucket.
Bruno is a fabulous movie, I really enjoyed it.
Beach reads and Vampires, a MUST!
And Spoiled intrigues me.

I love your quote about reading. There is no other treasure where I can escape for a few moments from my everyday.
