Caution: Slippery when...
Quote de jour
"Pavement slippery, people sneezing,
Lords in ermine, beggars freezing;
Titled gluttons dainties carving,
Genius in a garret starving. "
(January, 1795) ~Mary Robinson
I was looking for a quote to go with today's photo de jour when I came across a 18th C. poet I'd never heard of . Her words are as true today as when they were written. In my 'signs of the times' photo series, I like to play with words. I deliberately cropped the last word out to jar us out of idiom boredom. We assume the stairs are slippery when wet. It's a swimmimg pool after all. But, could the stairs be slippery when doused in suntan oil, or from the sweat of Eastern European wrestlers, or the tears of angels crying over mankind's stupidity? Could the stairs be slippery from too many hayfever sneezes, greasy fast food drips or you fill in the blanks-
Never assume, never presume is my motto this week.
