Envy is a Four Letter Word

Quote de jour

This young deer wandered onto our property recently looking for dinner. For some reason, its thin frame reminded me of the seven deadly sins. Not gluttony but envy. Every time I've envied someone, eventually I learn of some flaw or tragedy which instantly negates the envy. How about you?

Lovely lovely deer. I don't feel envy often, or many of the 7 deadly sins, but when I do I usually burn out with anger pretty quickly, then the nasty feelings drop away, burnout.

I don't think I've ever envied anyone. I guess I was just always content with who I am. I have felt empathy at times...and pity for those who use material goods to enhance themselves with "boasts".

Hmmm, I think I struggle more with Wrath than Envy, but I love both the inspiration and the analogy you've shared here. Your deer have been gracing the background of our computer since you sent them. One of this year's fawns paused on the tracks this morning and spent a few minutes contemplating our faces in the window staring back at him... I can honestly say that for a brief moment, I did envy the potentially green and serene moments he was likely to experience as he went about his day... I threw a fond wish for his well being after the white flag of his tail. I love my neighbors!
