Cat Saturday # 49-- Special Anniversary Edition
Quote de jour

Welcome to a special edition of Cat Saturday. I can't believe it's been a year since I began posting this blog. Cats are a big part of my life and every Cat Saturday is a labor of love for me; the photos, collages, quotes and art work. If you enjoy it, please pass it on. Share it with your friends on Facebook, Technorati etc. We're grown leaps and bounds but don't you think we should be on every cat lover's favorite list?
The pretty calico (pictured above) posed for me on the island of Bequia where all cats are outdoor cats. The locals found it bizarre that I sleep with my cats and horrified that they sleep under the covers.
Every week at Cat Saturday we honor one special cat as Cat of the Week. Of course all cats are special, but some cats have a certain je ne sais quoi. This week's cat of the week is Sophia and lives up to the title in spades. She lives in Boston with her mistress Bob, her hubby and a tuxedo kitty named Ophelia.

News & Mews
I recently spotted this beautiful feral stalking a rabbit in my favorite nature haunt, Harts Brook Park. After all these years, it was the first time seeing a feral cat there. Coyotes are in the area and might be the reason why.

Domino our outdoor feral kitty has used up another of his nine lives. He's recuperated nicely from a respiratory illness, but has not recuperated from our big yard/porch sale. Cats hate any kind of change and the porch is his domain. Fortunately, donations were collected for our local cat rescue group: Cat Assistance.
Catnapping with Merlin on the hammock. Looks idyllic right? What you don't see is both of us flipping over into the thorny bushes later. Ouch.

Merlin is a mama's boy, but has been known to flaunt a bitchy side.

Merlin is always elegant except last week. A less than noble beast emerged after a rain storm. We've endured record rain this summer. A few days ago, I heard thunder rumbling and saw Merlin making his way back the the house (he opens the door by himself). During a downpour of biblical proportions, I heard Merlin's distinctive meezer meow, outside. Merlin didn't mind too much or at least pretended not to, and once towel and tongue dried, his fur was silkier than ever.

Merlin's sister Coco has joined the geriatric set. She reminds me of a cantankerous old maid aunt. All that's missing are a cane and dentures in a jar. Coco sleeps all day and rarely ventures out anymore. She hisses at Merlin without provocation one minute and snuggles with him the next. I'm chopped liver to her and ignores me. Maybe it's time for a kitty shrink. Where's a cat whisperer when you need one? Merlin remains stoic and gallant. Both cats are losing their vision, but Coco won't go into the garden unless carried outside. Once there, she hangs out enjoying chomping on grass but prefers being alone. Very Greta Garbo.

Oh my...what a great job you did creating a Sophia collage. I can't wait to show her. When I do I'll put on Carly Simon's "You're So Vain"...it's her favorite song.

I love Sophia's blue eyes and long fur. What kind of cat is she? I think it is bizarre that those people always leave their cats outdoors.
I'm glad you still love Coco and care for her even if she is getting crotchety.

I'm not sure, probably part angora. Yes, Coco is a dear even though she's getting difficult

Sophia is amazingly photogenic. What a puss on that puss.
Poor Domino. All those "people" on his turf. I still think that someday he may come inside (at least to have a look).
Merlin looks like he was dipped!
Cute pics of his encounter with Coco.
Happy Anniversary.
