Mandala Mondays -- The Harmony of Opposites
Quote de jour
"The Great One produces the two poles (Heaven and Earth) which in turn give rise to the energies of the dark (Yin) and the light (Yang). These two energies then transform themselves, one rising upwards, and the other descending downwards, they merge again and give rise to form."

It's Labor Day, a holiday that sits on the edge of transformation, dividing summer from fall, warm from cold, lighter from darker, vacation from work and school. To me it embodies the principles of Yin and Yang. The yoga studio I attend normally takes a long break in the summer and resumes in the fall. The mandala I made reflects the Yin and Yang of seasonal changes. At the core is a yoga asana called the goddess pose. It's a very powerful and stable pose with both feet planted on the ground. Its grounding energy is one I resonate with today. My step-daughter is moving today into her dorm room in Boston to begin college life. Changes swirl around me like the first dried leaves that have fallen in my garden. I sense big changes hovering, waiting their turn as the wheel of life glides forward.

Transformation is a duality of change and stability, movement and constancy. It's a never ending push/pull of energy. We can choose to swim with the flow or against it. Surrendering to it is easier said than done, and there's nothing like loss to jump start the process. I like to post photos that show the creative influences behind my mandalas. I had the perfect photograph but realized it was on the dead hard drive. I scrolled through my meager selection of new shots and found this pure white flower and gave thanks. It symbolizes new beginnings and on closer inspection I realized this and not the other photo was the right One.

Interesting. I often see Fall as an ending that is a beginning. All things end but out of that comes new life, new ideas, new places to explore both in my heart, head and spirit and the outdoors.
