First Love Burns Brightest

Quote de jour

I went to see the Jane Campion film Dark Star last night. Its lush cinematography, decent acting, gorgeous costumes and a poignant love story was not enough to make me swoon. That said, I enjoyed this romantic period pic about the chaste and ill-fated love affair between poet 19th century poet John Keats and Fanny Brawne. The women in the audience shed some tears while the men snickered. While I'm not a huge fan of Keats, the film did entice me to read some of his poetry again with fresh eyes. That's maybe the best thing about period films that chronicle the lives of writers, poets and artist's. If it offers a new generation and demographic to discover their work, it's good enough for me.
The behind the scenes making of the film is charming.http://www.darkstarthemovie.com
