Walls or Bridges & What Happened to Tech-free Tuedays?

Quote de jour

If it's Tuesday, it must be...oh,oh, what happened to tech-free Tuesdays? No blogging, no internet, no e-mail, yikes, not even TV or telephone. It worked for a while, offering a peaceful Zen zone, but the slippery snake of technology reared its ugly head. One important client call lead to an e-mail; just one I rationalized. I don't even have a crackberry. No, no smart phones for me. Then, my new website begged to be finished (hopefully up next week).Autumn ignited a photo taking frenzy which required editing... well, you can guess the rest. Mea culpa. Now what? Change the day? How did we get here, to this techno-addicted culture anyway? Are the bridges to technology actually creating walls preventing real communication? Maybe I can Google it. Ha.

Lovely view of the bridge, I assume possibly from your house. I am going to have a tech free rest of the day. Sleep for one thing. Super stressed but tomorrow I will be okay again.

I wish it was my river view but it's not. That's the Tappan Zee Bridge in Tarrytown. N.Y.

Technology is such a mixed blessing. On the one hand, it helps build relationships. People we otherwise never would have met become "friends" on social media sites and in the blogosphere. And I treasure those relationships. But on the other hand, it becomes hard to tear ourselves away from being connected 24/7, and that's probably not a good thing. I'm often a little shocked at myself at how twitchy I get when I'm away from computer and cell phone for more than a few hours at a time.

I do think, on the whole, technology helps build more bridges than walls. As with everything else, though, moderation seems to be the key.
