Westchester Wednesdays - Red & Dead
Quote de jour
"They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them...
on 11/11,at 11 am silence. "
As I was putting together a collage fiery Japanese maples from several local cemeteries, it occurred to me; it's Veteran's Day and maybe my original title of red & dead not appropriate. Some might think of political overtones but sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. My father was veteran and instilled in me a reverence for those who fought for their country. When I was growing up in Montreal, old veterans would sell poppies on November 11th. I always bought one and if was lucky they'd pin it on my lapel. We'd both smile and say thank-you at the same time. I say thank-you now and forever.
The photos are from three separate but adjoining cemeteries in Hastings-on Hudson N.Y. Mount Hope, Temple Israel and Stephen Wise Free Synagogue Cemetery.

Thank-you. This is beautiful.

It is very appropriate for Veteran's Day, Armistice Day. A sad time but remembering keeps in mind that we must not enter lightly into war, and when we do, to remember those who give their lives.
Beautiful and peaceful cemetaries.
