What I'm Reading This Week -- November 22, 2009 & A Room With A View

Quote de jour

"He had one of the rarest qualities in all literature, and it's a great shame that the word for it has been thoroughly debased by the cosmetic racketeers, so that one is almost ashamed to use it to describe a real distinction. Nevertheless, the word is charm--charm as Keats would have used it. Who has it today? It's not a matter of pretty writing or clear style. It's a kind of subdued magic, controlled and exquisite, the sort of thing you get from good string quartettes."
- Raymond Chandler on F. Scott Fitzgerald

Can a great writer's style be absorbed by reading? That's on my mind but not as much as these @#*&* sticking keys preventing me from writing. Maybe it's the cosmic trickster telling me to let the image speak and go outside and play.

Bon Appetit has fab recipes for Thanksgiving. Makes me almost wish I were cooking but I will bake one of the desserts.

What a gorgeous photo, Layla. Taken on one of the sunny days.

Depends on the sponge, me thinks. But great quote. Love Keats, Chandler and F Scott.

Now for me, back to writing. Most of the week will be cleaning, and some cooking.

Nearly everybody home. In two more days, everybody.

I enjoy seeing the color montage of magazines. So, the red, white and blue themes continue.
