Global Season of Light

Photo Quote de Jour

This week kicks off the season of light. I grew up in Lutheran family of Finnish/Swedish roots entangled with Judaism. Officially I'm Pagan, but I prefer to be a citizen of a global spirituality. I woke up on this wintry morning with an idea to combine the various celebrations in a photo card. The hasty but playful result is above. Jewish families will light the first candle of Hanukkah tonight. Buddhists celebrate a festival of light today in honor of Lama Tsongkhapa, also called Ganden Ngamchö and occurs on the 25th day of the 10th lunar month. Both the Tibetan and the Jewish calendars are lunar and so Lama Tsongkhapa Day usually coincides with Hanukkah. Those of Scandinavian descent celebrate Saint Lucy's Day or St. Lucia. Catholics honor the immaculate conception as a preview to Christmas. What all the celebrations have in common is the illuminating power of light. Whatever you celebrate, may the light be with you.
