Cathedrals and Carousels

Photo quote de jour

I feeling like doing a happy dance in the snow barefoot! My lost photo archives were finally recovered. In celebration, I'm posting a  favorite photo from Paris which adheres to this week's theme "what goes around comes around". In this case quite literally. The fully operational antique carousel is in the Montmartre 'hood or, if you want to get fancy pants, the neighborhood is the 18th arrondissement in Paris. The ice cream cone dome in the background is the cathedral of Sacre Coeur. It reminded me of a Joni Mitchell song "The Circle Game" which captured the calliope rhythm of carousels to perfection. She sums up what I'm feeling about circular nature of life in this video. The most staggering thing is not the music but the "wise beyond her years" lyrics. She wrote this song at age twenty-three.

Good combo of music with the image. Wasn't this in a movie?

Yes, the carousel was featured in the film "Amelie' along with other location in the Montmartre.

I loved it, and I've always loved the Joni Mitchell tune. I'd love to see that barefoot happy dance in the snow also I'll bet the cold snow would get your toes tapping.

I actually did go barefoot. It's an excellent trick for grounding, when you need to get out of your head and into your body.

What a gem and a happy day that you found your lost archives!

This song was so popular when I moved to Montreal, as well as Both Sides Now. I loved Mitchell then and now. Just read about her on Wiki. Learned things I did not know.

That carousel is fantastic. And Montmartre, I've seen but only from a distance. Me thinks its high time I go back to Paris.

High time indeed. Bring your walking shoes. Those hills are steep or if lazy, take the funicular.

Great picture! Love the horse poised majestically at the top of the carousel. My body is here at the computer, but my spirit is sitting next to that man on the bench. Sometimes, it's okay to be in two places at once.

Thanks! Antique carousels are magic. You'd rather be on the bench and not on the carousel?
