Make My Day: Earth Day # 40 or 4.5 Billion
Photo quote de jour

It's the 4Oth anniversary of Earth Day today but since the earth is 4.5 billion years old, which number do you prefer? These are a selection of photos taken from my neck of the woods as recently as yesterday. My love of nature makes every day earth day for me.
By noticing the minute changes every day, my reverence grows. This morning, I noticed dandelions had popped yellow over night. I began weeding but stopped. Why are they considered weeds? The leaves are yummy diuretics and liver tonics. I plucked some tender leaves and will add them to my salad later. It's the little things that have the greatest impact eventually. My lawn will never breathe in chemicals. I bring my own bags to the store. I re-cycle, reuse, repair, re-design, re-configure, restore, refresh...you get the idea. Start small. Think big. We're all in this together.
A poem by ee.cumming sums up how I feel today.
when faces called flowers float out of the ground
when faces called flowers float out of the ground
and breathing is wishing and wishing is having-
but keeping is downward and doubting and never
-it's april (yes,april;my darling) it's spring!
yes the pretty birds frolic as spry as can fly
yes the little fish gambol as glad as can be
yes the little fish gambol as glad as can be
(yes the mountains are dancing together)
when every leaf opens without any sound
and wishing is having and having is giving-
but keeping is doting and nothing and nonsense
-alive;we're alive,dear it's(kiss me now)spring!
now the pretty birds hover so she and so he
now the little fish quiver so you and so i
(now the mountains are dancing, the mountains)
when more than was lost has been found has been found
and having is giving and giving is living-
but keeping is darkness and winter and cringing
-it's spring(all our night becomes day)o,it's spring!
all the pretty birds dive to the heart of the sky
all the little fish climb through the mind of the sea
(all the mountains are dancing;are dancing)

Amazing, after billions of year we screw up the planet in less than a 100 years!

True, it's mind boggling, but we can turn it around.

Gorgeous, really beautiful photos. We had great sun earlier, then clouds, and now a thunderstorm. In California and Quebec, it is required to bring organic bags to the store. Probably everywhere, soon. A good idea. Silent Spring is upon us - the Rachel Carson - where no birds sing because the earth is poisoned. Water, air, ground, toxic.

K, thanks, I didn't know that about Quebec. Do you mean all stores or grocery stores? I'm good about remembering to bring bags to the grocery store but less so for other stores. Maybe stuff a couple plastic bags in my hand bag?

Groceries. I don't bring my one or two with me, so Metro charges me a little bit. 5 cents or so. I don't really know. I think in California, too, people get charged. They are talking about it here, because the plastic bags cost the grocery chain more than the paper bags.

Layla-a beautiful montage of earthly delights and a marvelous poem to remind us of the glorious impermanence of it all.

The glorious impermanence: I like that.
