Should You Talk or Text on the Sidewalk of Life?

As always, my photo quote de jour has multiple messages to be interpreted on several levels. Today, I'm concerned with cell phone use while walking in public. There's enough in the news lately about the dangers of talking or texting while driving. I have only word word to describe it: Insane. But what about simply walking on a sidewalk or crossing the street? Sure, the distraction of communicating by cell leaves you vulnerable to accidents, it can be annoying to passersby, but what is most disturbing to me is how it prevents simple joys. While distracted, you're essentially walking with blinders on: blind the unexpected displays of beauty, humor or happiness happening all around you. Here's just a few simple joys that I noticed on a recent walk. On the sidewalk of life, what might have you missed today?
Raindrops on a flower?
An abandoned toy?
A hair band tied to a fire hydrant?

There is a lot of evidence based on the ER about talking and texting and walking. I see it all the time. I hate it.

I am so glad you wrote about this. You are so right about the dangers and just plain dumb for people to even walk and text or talk on their cell phone. It is horrible to drive and do it but almost as bad to walk and do it. I wonder how many people have been hit by something.
Anyway, those pictures are terrific. Love the hydrant with the hair band.

Can't fathom it myself. Walking around town and observing things is my greatest joy in life. Don't know why people want to be talking all the time.

Talking and not necessarily communicating. We won't know the fallout until the next generation. Why do I suddenly feel like an old fogie LOL.

Love love love the images here! I don't own a cellphone. Phones in general are one of my least favorite inventions, and the silliness people get up to with cellphones is outrageous. I can't say I'm too much better as a pedestrian though. At least half the time, I am walking down the street with my nose in a book! lol Although, I have yet to run into a single person, sign, building, car or other object... I have occasionally fallen prey to the unnoticed crack or water sprinkler lol
