There have been several kitty deaths in both my actual and virtual families in recent months. Every death feels like a sucker punch to the gut. Nothing can prepare for the moment when a beloved four-legged friend dies. This time, the death of Amber treads a little too close for comfort. With Coco and Domino's health scare, I'm steeling myself for a kitty funeral in my own backyard. Maybe it won't happen for months, maybe years. In the meantime, I savor every moment and can't take enough photos of my three. Today, when happily shooting in the garden this morning, I had no idea, Amber was dead but is it possible my cats, through some psychic cell phone knew bad news was in the wind and posed accordingly.
Merlin posed by the peace sign. Those old blue eyes knew something.

Coco was especially meditative in the herb garden. She sends condolences of a heavenly sort.

Domino, Amber's cyber-soul mate, her long-distance Romeo will have to wait to meet and marry his Juliet. Amber loved her "tough guy". He's used to danger and death, and but maybe his heart is little bigger having known love.

That's the most beautiful tribute ever. My cat's getting extra cuddles and catnip today.

All things are temporary, transitional, impermanent. I find it hard to learn that lesson, sometimes. Yoda says "Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealously. The shadow of greed, that is." Similarly with Buddha, "Look within. Be still.
Free from fear and attachment,
Know the sweet joy of living in the way." ... I still find these things enormously difficult. Because I get attached. *sigh*

Nicely said. Attachment is a biggie. Knowing the bigger picture helps but we can't all be the Dalai Lama in this lifetime.

Earlier this morning, I had a dream that you were going to tell us that a cat died. But it was ....I cannot say his name but it is your kitty's name that begins with D... And D has such pretty blue eyes, rare for a non-Siamese.
Cheddar and Mao are sad. They don't know that kitties are here only for a short time.
I am very sad about Amber. Cats are people, too.

K, do you think it was a premonition about Domino? It's bound to happen sooner or later given he's used up 8 of his 9 lives. Cats has no concept of time which is a blessing.

This is a wonderful tribute to Amber. Darn it all, it made me cry again. I know Ingrid will really appreciate it when she gets situated. We love how you had all the cats talk about Amber. Anyway, this is just terrific and thanks so much for doing it. Hugs to Domino. Good luck on that.
Have a good week end.

I agree, Chriss. Attachment causes great suffering, but strip that away and see the great love we have for our companion animals and for each other, which endures; and hopefully, the suffering will not be so sharp-in time.
It's very kind of you to create such a moving tribute to Amber and for Ingrid.

Domino could live a long time. Emma had 20 lives, one for each year. So many mishaps.

I remember what Klatu, Keanu Reeves character in the movie "The Day The Earth Stood Still," said to the little boy who was grieving for the loss of his father. He said, "Death is just a transition."
Also, when Alan Watts, a famous British philosopher, was asked about the meaning of death, he answers, "Death is an undulation in consciousness."
Without death, there could be no life. Do we not eat the dead parts of animals and plants so that we could live? Is it not that a cell in our body dies in each moment and gets replaced by another and more healthier cell?
Is there a reason for us to feel sad when someone dies when, in fact, they are in a much better place than the ones who are still alive? =)

What a touching photodisplay! Sorry to hear of Amber's death. The loss of a beloved creature is always a sad event, and must be approached with humility and tenderness.
