Procrastination: Curse or Cure for Writers?

Photo quote de jour

Today's quote is courtesy of blogger and aphorism maven Nothing Profound The fiery poppies are from my favorite Hart's Brook Park, my favorite spot for procrastinating from my writing with photography. But, is it procrastination if you are doing another creative pursuit? I want to say no, but blank manuscript pages might differ. I know a number of writers and the only thing we share in comman is the universal affliction: procrastination. It's a one-size-fits-all disease, known to strike without warning, stealthy as a jungle cat, causing itchy fingers for anything but writing. Why, there's an email from Facebook, Farmville looks inviting, and a tweet about a new book, off to Amazon to check it out, and what was that name of that writer's retreat? Thank-you Google. Enough Internet, get back to work, but don't I need clean clothes and the dust bunnies are getting ready to multiply. Must vacuum, so hungry, oops, we're out of coffee? No, groceries! No Oprah! Get back to work. What's another word for procrastination and is it communicable? I get out my old Roget's Thesaurus, the crumbling one older than me. I have a new one but it doesn't have the soul of the old one. What do you think? Which word resonates with you? I especially love the l's like loll and languorous or languid. Okay, that's enough procrastination for me today. Back to work! How about you?

I agree, if you are working on a non-deadine, it is not procrastination. But the muse is a moody bitch. She shows up whenever there's a deadline and rarely any other time. Deadlines require the muse to be present, coffeed, dressed, brushed and made up (or not) every morning, noon and night.

Now back to my bitch. For she's treating me that way, today.

But it is so much fun to procrastinate. Much more fun than doing the work and isn't fun what life is all about?? I guess procrastinating is the same as getting distracted.
Hope you have a great day.

Whenever this kind of thing happens to me, that's the time I hate myself the most. I feel useless, pathetic, and shameful. Then when my daughter turns on the television and Spongebob is on, I become happy again and the impetus to write returns.

Layla, if those gorgeous poppy pictures are evidence of your procrastinating, give me more of it.

I agree, it is a common affliction and some take it to the level of art form! lol I have a sneaking suspicion that it is, indeed, contagious. For me, I am never quite sure if I am procrastinating, or caught in that typical Gemini trap of juggling too much at once lol I'm fairly certain it's both ;o)
