Westchester Wednesdays - Cocktails on the Hudson
Quote de jour
"A good heavy book holds you down. It's an anchor from getting up and having another gin and tonic."
~Roy Blount Jr.
There's no end to my favorite places and things in Westchester County, but Westchester Wednesdays will be posted sporadically this summer. Yesterday kicked off G & T season officially (well, at least for me) at South Beach Bar, the patio bar/resto at Half Moon in Dobbs Ferry. After a sweaty yoga class, a cool breeze and a cold cocktail were on my to-do list. I met an editor pal on the patio who deemed gin & tonic the quintessential summer drink. Technically, it's not summer yet but who was going to argue with our current heat wave? The patio, dressed with jaunty red umbrellas was already full of casually dressed diners at 5:30. The tiny, covered bar ( seats about seven lucky souls) where we initially sat, is staffed by friendly (some might call hot) bartenders. The drinks were good but over-priced and horrors, served in cheap, thimble-sized plastic glasses not in keeping with the high-end restaurant. We carried our drinks to the river's edge and promptly forgot any criticism. How can you complain sitting inches from the water with this view and a cool breeze? The Manhattan skyline shimmered oasis-like in the distance and all was well. Next time, I must try their lobster roll. Welcome to summer. Half Moon Restaurant

What a fantastic blog today, Layla. Really enjoyed your sojourn with the G & T in Westchester. A fascinating slice of life most of us dream about. Or think we dream about. Maybe not the thimble-sized glasses.
