Cat Saturday- One more for Kitty Heaven
Photo quote de jour
Kitty heaven is getting way too many new arrivals for my liking. It's with great sadness to announce yet another passing of a past Cat Saturday "Cat of the Week" named Plunkett. Dear, wise Plunkett, only eight years old, suffered sudden renal failure this week. He lived happily in California with one of my dearest cyber friends, artist, writer, astrologer Jean Fisher. I made this little memorial collage in his honor. Trip the light fantastic on Rainbow bridge, dear boy.

Closer to home...
Merlin dispenses his wisdom in the garden. A little help weeding would be nice, next time.

Domino, feral friend and the original tree hugger, loves to nap by a huge root but does not like being disturbed. No major dramas to report this week.

Coco and I are both blind as bats. I still haven't found my glasses ( see yesterday's post). This is how I imagine Coco might see the world. She spends most of the day napping on a heated pad even with the warm weather. Every accommodation is made to keep her comfortable in her waning days. It feels like wheeling an recalcitrant, old granny outdoors, but her daily excursion to the garden perks her up and reduces her hyper-vocalization at night. It's common for elderly cats, especially those with vision issues. I never had the opportunity to have a crying infant, but I know what it feels like now.

Life is short. Enjoy your pets and help other furry friends in need. One person who does that is Marg, who sweetly blogged about me today at www.margsanimals.com

That is so sad about Plunkett. It is always sadder when they have to go to bridge so young. Love the picture of Merlin in the basket. That is too cute. Of course the pictures of Domino are super. Guess he is our favorite because he is a feral cat.
Thanks for the shout out. Hope my post will do a little good. All we can do is try.
Have a super weekend.

Losing your glasses is the scariest thing. That's why I have two pair, the old and the new. I preferred the old pair, actually, but I
LOST them in Amherst 3 weeks ago. So now, I'm down to one pair, myself.
And yeah, that is how we blind people see, not well at all.
I cannot read or type or drive or find anything in the house smaller than a fridge without my glasses.
And since my frames are thin wires, I cannot even find my glasses half the time.

Oh, Layla... That's lovely. I'm sure himself would approve. My crying jags are farther in-between now but, by no means, have they stopped. Every little sound and glimpse of shadow causes me to stop -- wondering if it is he -- and then I remember the awful truth. This place (especially outside) seems so empty to me now and I miss Plunkett terribly... I am loathe bring another kitty here for fear of it being bitten by a rattlesnake as Plunkett was 3 years ago. He recovered from that, of course, but, I cannot help but think that the venom that circulated through his little system did its dastardly deed over time and contributed to his early demise. It rained for 4 days straight after my precious Plunkey breathed his last -- as though the entire Earth was mourning his loss... and none more than I.
love,
jean

My heart goes out to your friend Jean - Plunkett was such a young cat still! So much loss and sadness these past few weeks.
It's hard to watch our loved ones get older and slow down. I'm glad Coco is still enjoying her outings into your yard. You said it best in your last sentence - life is short. Enjoy your pets.
It's nice to see Domino looking so peaceful - as a semi-feral cat, I always think of him as having to be on guard most of the time.
Marg is the quintessential animal lover, how nice of her to feature you on her site today.

Ingrid, I can imagine how seeing this might make your heartache given your recent loss of Amber. (((hugs))). Domino may appear relaxed until you get about six feet away from him and his eyes pop open. It's like he has eyes in the back of his head. It's how he's survived as long as he has.

I'm really glad you add some positive stuff to an otherwise sad blog posting. That's something I need to work on, too.

I found you via Marg's Pets and it's lovely to "meet" you.
We're very sorry to read about Plunkett, it's so awfully difficult to bear the lose of our beloved fur companions. I'm sending lots of universal healing Light to his human.
Coco doesn't have hyper-thyroidism, does she? Yeowling at night is also common with that. My 9-ish/10-ish female Annie was diagnosed hyper-t last September, that's why I mention it.
Wonderful photos, by the way! I'm looking forward to visiting your blog again!

Thanks for stopping by. Coco had bloodwork done recently and her thyroid is fine, but hat's a good point and so common with older cats.

Thank you for the beautiful tribute to Plunkett. My commiseration to Jean for her loss. Plunkett was quite a character, and I enjoyed his adventures when I was on Gather.
I've tried to e-mail Jean several times since Gather, but she has never responded. Hint, hint!
Layla, I sure would like to be a fly on the wall at your house when you find your glasses. I can imagine your scream!

R.I.P. dear Plunkett.
I have multiple sets of glasses around the house and yard. I try to remember to leave them after used. I can't read without them, but can not walk or drive WITH them.

Love the photos of Domino napping. Now I feel like finding a soft knoll somewhere and doing likewise.

Hi Layla, this post made me smile, and as I am commenting to this post, my little kitten, Smurf, decided to make my lap his heated pad.
BTW, I have a tortoise called Merlin and I noticed you have a cat with the same name. =)
The photo shot of him nesting in the basket is so endearing! What a ball of fluffy goodness!
