The Keys to the Kingdom

This quote by Daniel Pink is from his book A Whole New Brain: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule The World, which I read recently. It inspired my inner graphic designer to create this poster. I happily live most days in my right or intuitive, empathetic and creative brain. While I’m not a professional graphic or web designer, I’m always amazed what we can do when someone stokes our creative fire. I found an old key and placed it on a variety of surfaces including a crystal ball, a feather and some brocade fabric which resulted in three different photographs. This is the crystal ball version and I’ll save the others for a different quote de jour on another day.
It’s my intention at this blog to do some stoking of my own. Your homework today (no, you don’t have to it) is to do something creative that you’ve never done before, or something you haven't done since you were a kid. As kids we draw and color, make crafts, play in imaginary worlds and then poof in adulthood most of us stop, but the innate impulse lies buried. Go on, I know there’s something right-brain itching to be expressed. Make a collage from childhood photos, string a necklace from odds and ends, design a cocktail and name it, sketch a design for your dream handbag, draw a map of a fantasy country and make yourself ruler, figure out a better way of organizing your pantry, create something with your own two hands. Anything. Do it and let me know what happened.

That's amazing! I must get his book and this weekend I'm going to invent a new flavor of homemade popsicles.

I am far right brain, because I am left handed. Well. I am left handed and I could be whole-brain, right brain or far-right brain. My preferential mode is to operate by instinct, rather than by planning. But planning is a must, so I have to switch into left-brain mode to do so.
I have heard about this book and simply must read it.
Have a great day.
Off to exercise and to work on my MS.

Well, Layla, add me to the line-up of left-handed suspects. I'll try to think of something creative I haven't done before-I suppose cleaning my room doesn't count.

I've been using my nostrils lately to indicate which of my brain hemispheres is functioning during the day. Remember ida and pingala? hehe.
Have you ever thought about setting up a greeting card/post card business? My brain is telling me that your pictures will do great for that kind of thing.

Yeah, I do. Thanks for reminding me to unblock my left ida nadis today. Re: cards, I just started a gallery at RedBubble but it's alot of work with little return. Am mulling over other possibilites. Ideas welcome.

I will have to read the book, tho sometimes it feels as if it's an entire identity crisis in the present structure of life. Our artistic mind is far older than our linear mind ...
