Cat Saturday -- Games Cats Play
Photo quote de jour

Who feels like working when summer is here, but for the hard working people at animal shelters, the work never ends. Last Saturday, I attended a charity luncheon "Patty's Paws For a Cause" for the Elmsford Animal Shelter,Elmsfordanimalshelter.com my favorite and hands down best animal shelter in Westchester County. The luncheon was to raise funds for the 800 animals housed there. They want to build two new indoor/outdoor cat houses in order to get all the cats out of cages. They do amazing work on a tiny budget and have merged with another shelter, Pets Alive to become Pets Alive Westchester to better serve the community. The videos of the cats and the cat house are adorable.

Patty, the unofficial shelter mascot dog has lived at the shelter for ten years (shown here with Michelle Mazzacca who does a great job with PR.) There was a silent auction and raffle with lovely prizes including this original painting by Samantha Curtis.

There's nothing like being in a room with two hundred avid pet lovers. We were entertained by the very funny and talented magician Bill Herz (who kindly donated his time). I highly reccommend attending their next event. Hmmm, I see more volunteering in my future...

Merlin and Coco play hide and seek in the garden which is interesting since both are nearly blind. Merlin, who I swear must have been a dog in another life insists on going for walks at least twice a day despite his visual impairment.

Feral Domino loves playing catch me if you can. He knows how to mysteriously appear or disappear depending on whether a vet is arriving or food containers are being opened. He is one smart kitty proudly showing off his freshly laundered coat. Doesn't his look say,
"Hey, what have you done today to help cats???" Have a great week!

I love Domino's expressions. And yes, playing is a full time job for cats. And sleeping and eating. Ched is resting on the couch. He adores kisses almost as much as he adores food. He even knows the word, Kisses.
Coco and Merlin are adorable, as always.

Wow, it is so nice to hear about a wonderful place like you have up there in NY.How great is that to have 800 animals staying there and now talking about building more facilities so the cats don't have to be in cages. That is something that one dreams about and it is so nice to hear about it and that it really does happen. I hope they can continue to raise the funds for that shelter which I am sure they will.
Love the pictures of Merlin and Coco. And Domino is looking good that silly boy. I had a cat once that loved to go for walks too. He went everywhere that the dogs and I went whenever we went for a walk when we lived on a plantation in Charleston. It was a lot of fun.
Enjoyed this post a lot.
Have a great week end.

Who is the tortie in the first photo? Her coloring is beautiful!
And Domino is handsome as ever - what a face!

Ingrid, there is a trio of torties who are often on the sidewalk outside their home. I often photograph them on my way to the train station.

We also have a wonderful animal shelter here in Ithaca, but in sorry need of funds. Great pictures all the way around, the people and the cats all look so happy.
