  One of my favorite things is walking around the lake and looking at the ducks. Seeing them splashing and cavorting in the water always makes me think: "Boy, they've got it made."

     Except in hunting season. I found this guy at a small pond near the Hudson with his mate. The following week, I went back and found a very scruffy mallard all alone with no mate. He looked so sad. I don't think he was the same one as in this photo.
