Cats Gone Wild

Photo quote de jour

It always amazes me how my cats love the heat.  During last week’s heat wave while I ran around refreshing water bowls, worrying about dehydration, my cats avoided the air-conditioned areas to nap in the hottest area, the third floor. Go figure. Feral Domino at least had the good sense to nap under the coolest bushes.
It was a week of "splendour in the grass"

Just when I felt a glimmer of hope about Domino’s socialization, he attacked my ankles and swatted at Merlin. Domino usually is impatient getting fed and thinks a playful swipe to the ankles will hasten the service. I don’t mind a playful swat but he drew blood this time and I was not amused. Maybe it was the heat but I’m leery about his future as an indoor cat.

Even in the heat, Merlin insisted going for walks at least twice a day keeping his eyes and ears on high alert for his nemesis, the black cat. I spotted a black cat twice this week, the first time in months. It could have been Rambo, Domino’s worst enemy or Lunesta, a feral I thought was long dead. Perhaps it was a ghost? Merlin patiently posed for me and lovingly placed his paw on my face when I couldn’t sleep. He’ll always be my #1 boy.

Coco, the blind senile doyenne won't walk around the garden anymore but will rest in comfy spots like this. I’m a big believer in keeping cats stimulated for their psychological well being with toys and playtime, but nothing beats outdoor adventures with the sights, sounds and smells of nature. We had another coyote attack a child in a nearby town and needless to say my cats don’t venture outside without me watching hawk-like a few feet away.

Oh dear, I wonder whether Allegra has been telepathically communicating with Domino about how much fun ankle biting can be. I'm still working on curing her of that nasty little habit.

Coco looks so happy in her garden!

Yes, how true. They love the heat those lions, even the little lions. And yes, if you don't ask, you can't get.

Cats ask. Where are mine? Oh under some rock, cooling off.

    I am off to exercise!

Cats do like to be warm but I would think they would like the air conditioning. Mine don't come in much either. They are so afraid they might miss something outside. I agree that cats need to do cat things to keep then mentally stimulated. Bad boy Domino for swatting Mom. Not good.
    Everyone else is looking good.
    Have a super week end.

I guess Domino will always be a wild boy. So cute but you can't tell a book by its cover!

Oh, my, coyotes are scary. We have them around here from a large creek three miles away. When the water dries up, they go through the neighborhoods. (I live in a suburban, well-populated area.)They got one of my cats about 15 years ago. Word of advice - carry a big stick when you go in wooded areas!

Good advice. I usually do. Our coyotes are still afraid of people but gradually getting bolder.
