A Taste of Summer

Quote de jour
"Live in each season as it passes: breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit."

~  Henry David Thoreau

Where is summer running to other the obvious autumn? I can’t believe it’s the middle of July, or deep summer already.  My markers of summer coincide with my end of July birthday, except this year everything seemed to arrive earlier: the fireflies, the day lilies, the black-eyed Susans and last week, the early bird cicadas, already. The spring greens of tree leaves have darkened too soon, too soon, too soon!

The photos in this collage are some of my summer memories thus far. For me, summer is about going barefoot and wearing as little clothes without getting arrested. And food eaten outside: ice cream cones, watermelon, juicy dripping-on-chin peaches, butter slathered corn on the cob, BBQ anything… which reminds me, I have a picnic lunch to prepare for a bike ride to sop up some more memories.

What are your favorite memories of summer?
