Cats as Spiritual Teachers

Question: Do you prefer the usual square format for Kitty Wisdom 101 or a rectangular shape like today? Would the format shape matter if it were in printed as a card or book?
We’re in another heat wave and I’m making sure all the cats, birds and other woodland creatures have enough fresh water. Dehydration and over-heating is a serious health concern as I found out on a bike ride this week.

When coyotes showed up in the garden last year, coupled with my cat’s failing vision I knew their unlimited days of freedom were over. They used to push open the screen door to go out and pull the door open to get back inside from morning to night. It saved me the trouble of being a doorman and they loved it. When the escorted “walks” began, I resented the effort to monitor their outdoor time. Walking my cats is not like walking a dog. I foolishly thought years ago, that I could leash train Merlin and Coco. They sat wearing their harness and leash refusing to budge. After giving me the evil eye and the telepathic message, you stupid woman, how dare you try to subjugate us! I smartened up.
So, two or three times a day, Merlin and I go for walks or I should say he takes me. My original resentment has turned to pleasure and appreciation. Who knew he’d be my guide and guru? He leads me to nooks and crannies in the garden I’d normally miss. By observing his curiosity in nature, I follow suit. Every sniff of tree bark, leaf and flower invites me to breath more deeply. When he stops, I stop to gaze at the clouds, birds, dewdrops on a spider web, pinecones and unfurling petals. When he moves, I follow in my master’s footsteps in slow reverence, the teacher has become the student.

I prefer the bottom format. I will be back again later.

I like the top format. I bet that is very peaceful to go for a walk with the cats or cat. We know that they enjoy it a lot too and you are very special to do this for those kitties. Guess it beats a coyotes getting them.
Have a great week end

I've always thought that cats are amazing teachers. Love the photos of Merlin in the garden - what a kitty (and human) paradise!
As for the format - I prefer the square one for the blog, but for a book, I'd go with the rectangular one.

Hey, Layla!
I'm a guy, and I don't worry too much about how things look, so I have no comment to make about your format. I like the pictures, and as long as I can see them, I'm fine with it. You have excellent taste, and your presentations so far have been great. If you want to play around with them, go ahead. It's your blog! You won't hear from me unless you do something too outre; i.e., do the pictures in flamingo pink or something!!!
You didn't mention yesterday's temperature, so I can't compare. We hit 97 here. Today, we've gone done to a cool 88. Still muggy, though! A checker at the market today said, "Remember the year when we had summer until November." I responded, "It was after December 1st before we had fall weather."
Stay cool and hydrated!

We're in the same muggy boat. Flamingo pink sounds fun!

Agreed. We do learn from the cats.
I prefer the first and the last format.

It never ceases to amaze me that I have found another person who appreciates and loves cats the same way I do in you my friend!!! Beautiful pics!!!
I am still struggling to be able to take care of my ferals, let alone my two indoor babies, Orphie and Twinky! There actually may be a site called Mid Michigan Adopt a Pet that may be able to help me soon. I just hope the "soon" doesn't come too late.

Your walks with Merlin sound like a little piece of heaven. It's wonderful to slow down and encounter nature at a cat's pace.
