Cat Saturday - Please Spay/Neuter Pets

New & Mews
Meet Daisy, a pretty and petite girl who at less than two years-old has already had two litters. It's been a while since I've meet a cat parent who hasn't  spayed their cat. She is the new neighbor at my husband's office and I've been told to mind my business. Should I ?
I'll be photographing this beautiful kitty again and pray there won't be a litter # 3.

Closer to home, a rare sighting of my gang together. Domino is oddly cowed by blind Coco. Merlin and Coco's loud night and day vocalizations ebb and flow testing everyone's patience. It's an adventure in compassion and a portal to new spiritual wisdom. I filmed Coco walking around in circles in the garden. Youtube folks might think it funny but I nixed posting it, regarding it as exploitative and God knows there's enough of that online.

Domino had short round of antibiotics for a recurring eye infection and is feeling and looking much better. He's fussy about his food and has lost some weight. Not enough to cause worry but...

Cat Art of the Week
This is one of my favorite pieces of art done by the shy and admiring five-year son of a former student of mine.

Link of the Week
In the wake of the April 20 disaster and the economic catastrophe that followed for the Gulf Coast region, people living the affected areas have surrendered their dogs and cats in droves because they can no longer afford to care for them. ABCNews reported that nearly 200 Gulf Coast pets given up by their owners have recently been euthanized.

A Chalmette, La., shelter pleaded for help on its website, saying, "Dogsand cats by the scores are being surrendered to the St. Bernard Shelter by residents who can no longer afford to keep them or who have to move but can not take their pets with them. The shelter is overflowing with some wonderful animals who need new families to love."

To deal with the overflow, some shelters are sending animals out of state. The Humane Society of the United States and the Louisiana SPCA recently transported about 100 dogs from nine overwhelmed Louisiana shelters and rescue groups, including the one in St.Bernard, to St. Hubert's Animal WelfareCenter in Madison, N.J. Most of the dogs will be available for adoption at St. Hubert's, and the rest will be placed with other New Jersey shelters.
