Cat Saturday- Rasta Cat No More

One cat can bring more joy than any thousand words. Above, is an old photo of my old girl Coco who physically looks the same as ever. Mentally is another story. She lives in her own kitty dementia world preferring her own company. If I’m lucky, she let’s me massage her and do some Reiki. Her favorite spot remains the sofa in my dressing room. She doesn’t like to have the pillows fluffed and prefers to burrow in the V. (The birdcage is empty). Here she is yawning after nap #39 of the day.
Coco and her brother and pal Merlin still snuggle on occasion but he knows his sister isn’t all there. That may be one of the reasons he yowls 24/7 stopping only for cuddles, treats and walks outdoors. There is nothing wrong with him physically. More than ever, I believe in the body/mind/spirit connection is for animals as well as humans.
Merlin doing what he loves most hanging outside on a hot day. The only problem? A snoopervising mom. He says, “Damn those coyotes, but Mom why are you always in my face?"
Domino our outdoor feral must be the luckiest cat in the world. Yesterday was Friday the 13th but it was his lucky day. All week, a matted mound on his back (a faux Mohawk look) shredded and dropped into Rasta cat dreads. I desperately wanted to snip it off but he wouldn’t let me near him so I told him to roll around in the pea gravel. He looked me straight in the eye and smart cat that he is must have taken my advice to heart. This morning he emerged dreadlock-free and more handsome than ever. Better yet, a nasty upper respiratory cough cleared up after antibiotics and I’m convinced, the root energy of his favorite tree. There are scads of books about cats, but truth be told, many are too fluffy for my taste. It’s satisfying to come across on an interesting subject written intelligently. The Divine Life of Animals by Ptolemy Tompkins is such a book. He gets my vote for “writer whose name sounds like a character in novel”.

Poor Coco but as long as she is eating and seems happy, she is probably fine. It looks like she has a great quality of life sleeping on that sofa. And Merlin you cannot wander around outside with the coyotes for heaven sake.
Domino, Splitter sends her very best and thinks you are very handsome and we are sure glad you got rid of that ugly dread. Hope all of you including Mom have a great day and week end.

Marg, now that Domino is feeling better and looking more handsome than ever, perhaps an introduction the Splitters is in order.

Coco will surprise you on day.... she will suddenly decide that she has had enough of it and that is time to truly "connect".
We had such a cat, Sneezy... we couldn't even touch her, she avoided all contact. Today she is a love bug, the most loving and "physical" cat we have.
Patience.. it will happen one day.
I, like you, dislike fluffy books about animals (can't stand them really!), but something tells me you will REALLY enjoy Suzanne Clothier's: Bones would rain from the sky...

Wonderful reading...

Victor, thanks for the recommendation and link. re: Coco she used to be a love bug and still does sleep with us but is a loner all day.

All your cats are looking wonderful despite their ups and downs.

I admire you for the kind of empathy you express for the beings you encounter in this lifetime, human or otherwise. You are a good soul and I appreciate the opportunity provided by the higher powers that allowed our digital selves to meet. May the gods and goddesses shower you with more blessings.
Peace and respect,
Ryhen
P.S. I like the 1st & 3rd pic. =)

Well, Siamese definitely love to talk a lot. My son has a cat he grew up with who also talks and yowls all the time. You're so intuitive and really "get" cats. They're fortunate babies and I know we are the blessed ones to have them in our lives, esp. rasta kitties ; )

I definitely believe in the mental and spiritual life of animals.
Coco and Merlin look good for their ages. Emma lasted until 20.
Domino is so sweet, as usual.
Our Cheddar and Mao found something under the stove. I didn't think they were serious until I found Mao sniffing away. Then I heard a mouse squeak. The two boys will not give up until that mouse comes out.

What a lovely room! Who can blame Coco for spending so much time there, especially when she blends so perfectly with the couch. Domino is, indeed, a handsome fellow.

I love the "one cat can bring more joy than any thousand words" quote - beautiful!
My heart breaks a little every time I read an update about Coco - for you, and Merlin, more so than for her. She seems quite comfortable in her world. There's no doubt in my mind that Merlin is affected by her changes.
The book is going to the top of my TBR list - great find!
