I Garden, Therefore I Am

Photo quote de jour

Where did the summer go? Every time I see a flyer for back to school sales I cringe. The first dried leaves have already fallen in the garden and the greenery has passed to the other side of lush. I want to stop time right now when the tomatoes are sweet and the peppers juicy, but there's no stopping mother nature. My basil, marjoram, mints and sage are going to seed. What can you do but be happy as the bees who pollinate them? I made today's photo quote de jour at the beginning of summer but never got around to posting it. With it is a recent collage from my garden and two local garden/farms. I garden, therefore I am. If you garden enjoy your bounty, if you don't but have a farmer's market near you please take advantage of the freshness while you can. Your body & soul will thank you.

Sorry your summer is slipping away. Ours is finally beginning after weeks of overcast known as "June Gloom." Tuesday's high was 90; Wednesday's was 93. Expect it to be the same today. Will know in late September if we are going to have a long summer or if autumn will come as usual!

    Hi,

I love the photos. I thought I was the only photographer / gardener. I guess the two should go hand in hand. I not only want to eat and share the food from the garden but also take photos of it. I will be keeping up with your blog!

I absolutely love it! Thank you. I must share a quote from Gunilla Norris~ "Working with soil, seeds and plants, I find I must live a different kind of time. Growth, both inner and outer, has its own rhythm, and if I am to really be present~I must be with organic time, with weather and waiting, with hard work and trust, and with disappointment and surrender. I know that while I garden, I am the one who will be cultivated."
A friend sent me this quote and opened up a new world~ as happens when you find a new author. Same as happened with finding you. You have created a beautiful world here.

I'm ready for the Fall! I love the colors and hopefully cooler weather. You seem like a Summer Goddess, hence your gorgeous garden. Those peaches look SO delicious...I love farmers markets, I feel like I'm back in our ancestors days.

Agreed fresh veggies and fruit are necessary. I remember visiting a friend in Phoenix and for breakfast she went out to the grapefruit tree and brought in 2. They were still warm from the morning sun. I have never, ever tasted grapefruit so delicious.

Yum! There is nothing like freshly picked fruit or veggies still warm from the sun.

Layla, thanks for sharing your lovely summer's end thoughts. It's always a shock to me to find browning leaves falling in August! Your photo and collage really capture the seasonal fleetingness of the moment. Jude
