Autumn Equinox: Light and Dark in Equal Measure
Photo quote de jour

Thanks go out to Marty Rubin for today's quote and ongoing collaboration. Many of my favorite quotes come from dead poets, so it's nice to be able to thank a live one for a change. He's known to loiter at aphorism of the day
It's that time again, when light and dark are in equal measure. After the Autumn Equinox we shift towards longer nights and shorter days. It's natural to want to burrow in wools and go within. The scent of nostalgia is in the air with this moody image of where I used to practice yoga. For many years, an old factory housed the yoga studio by the Hudson River. I'd mark the change of seasons by the sun. In the spring, the sun would still be high and bright after class at 5:30, but by Christmas it would be dark by the end of our class.
The studio moved to a new location a few years ago and the old factory space turned derelict. Since last winter, I've trespassed over the bridge (seen in the photo) several times to document the changes inside and outside the space. From peeling paint, broken glass and overgrown weeds to gradual signs of renovation, I'm fascinated by its haunting beauty, this wabi sabi wonderland, a former place of peace and om.
Everything changes eventually, but for now, I'm happy the new season of yoga starts today.

Hmmm, wasn't there a movie called "Dead Poets Society"?

It is terrific that you can find beauty in an old building that is sort of falling down.; Guess that is what artists do which is great. I kind of like a little shorter day. But not looking forward at at all to cold weather.
Have a good one and take care.

I love Autumn, even though October is her last great month, and November spells her death. Beautiful day today, As soon as the plumber comes, I'm going out for a long training walk-run. And more dancing, Then another poem. Just finished a ton of cleaning.

It is good to sometimes close your eyes and acknowledge that there is a dark side. The awakening to light, after a long om, is a celebration.

Thank you, Layla, for this wonderful equinox gift. I love old, rundown buildings, especially ones that bear some personal significance. There's such an air of sentiment and mystery.

Have you ever had one of those moments that you are sure mean something significant but cannot interpret what? I had one of those: "equinox, full moon, and a cat". Keyword search brought me to you. Curious?
