The Most Beautiful Thing in the World
Photo quote de jour

Ah..., the Boomer Muse is back on track. This photo shoot was inspired by an article I read recently about the removal of scent from commercial roses and other flowers. It's a sad economic necessity for many flower growers. The de-scented hybrids are stronger and last longer but at what price to our soul? We're hardwired to sniff in proximity to any bouquet. How could you not hold a rose and not want to bury your nose inside? As this rose opened its heart to me, I inhaled its honeyed ambrosia scent and my heart opened with love. We're all roses; some of us are scented more than others; some of us are fading but

we all have the ability to love, and that's a beautiful thing.

Beautiful pictures, intelligent words, and it produced wonderful emotions. Humans are gifted with intelligence. Yet, the greatest gift is the ability to feel emotion. You have it right love is a beautiful emotion.

It IS sad that a rose is a rose by any other name; except for the scent. If I can't deeply inhale the beautiful aroma of a rose, I might as well buy plastic ones, but I have roses planted in my backyard that I can honor Aphrodite with...Love that you said, no matter how wilted we can still love..'tis true, myf friend

Wendy, we're lucky to have scented roses in our gardens. The pink rose has special meaning for me; it's the single rose that brought out of nowhere to bloom just before Coco died. The rose is hanging on to dear life, but it still has a heady scent!

What a gorgeous picture! And I agree wholeheartedly. We must do everything possible to keep all our senses fresh and alive. They are the gateway to the soul.
A new aphorism perhaps?
"Keep all your senses fresh and alive; they are the gateway to your soul."

Well that isn't good news that they have taken the scent out of roses although they are still gorgeous. They are my favorite flower. Thank heavens they grow in my yard and I don't have to buy them. That really is sad about the none scent. Lots of great comments here.
Have a great day.

I find the idea of hybridizing the roses to remove the scent very sad. The first thing I do when I get flowers is give them a whiff.
