Cat Saturday - Blog Party

Something a little different is brewing today at Cat Saturday. We've joined the Practical Magic blog party. Practical Magic Blog Party See the banner in the side bar? Click if you want to join the party. We're celebrating our love of the film Practical Magic based on the magical book by Alice Hoffman. I'll be flitting about visiting many of the witchy bloggers. Now, off to figure out how Merlin and Domino will fit on my broomstick.
News & Mews
Last week’s blog about Coco’s death brought a deluge of love and support. Thank-you so much! It will be featured this Saturday as the blog of the week at Pet Blogger Support. Pet Blogger Support
The grieving has opened pockets of intense joy and insights which I'm documenting for a possible book. We are healing one day at a time, and it's remarkable watching Merlin bounce back from a morose kitty under the duvet to his normal handsome self cavorting with his feral pal Domino.
Merlin and I have enjoyed the summery weather every afternoon in the secret garden. Those eyes have grown even more wise, if that's possible. One late afternoon, Merlin struck a pose I've never seen him do before. Very retriever-like.
I'd shown Merlin Coco's grave by the barn, he's but refused to go on his own until Wednesday. Then, he sniffed madly and circled around and around paying his respects. He knew.
We had some full moon drama when Domino ( who never strays much farther than the garden) disappeared for 24 tense hours. Merlin greeted him with new interest. A new page has turned and I'm prepared to face life with renewed gusto and reverence.

Yes, cats feel and know when one of them went to the rainbow bridge. They do that little ceremony of little circles and sniffs.
Love Merlin's saggy belly that tells seniority.

We will go visit the magic site. Those pictures of Merlin are gorgeous. We sure are glad that Domino came home. Maybe he was grieving for Coco. Splitter says for you to stay home Domino. She also says she loves that picture of you Domino. Get yourself into that house please.
Have a great Saturday.

I'm so glad to see that Merlin is recovering so quickly. Animals are so much better at dealing with death than we humans are - they know on a visceral level that it's just a natural part of the cycle.
The close up photo of him is stunningly beautiful. The wisdom in his eyes is almost overwhelming.

Ingrid, he's graciously posed for me like never before.

Layla-congratulations on getting the article mentioned-well-deserved. Your handling of Coco's death was truly awe-inspiring and exemplary. Glad you're returning to your life and work with renewed joy and insight. But, of course, anyone who even remotely knows you knew you would.

Sorry about Coco! I know how difficult it is to lose a loved one. I lost my Matthew last year (the most intelligent Betta fighting fish ever, although he was more a lover than a fighter, to be honest). I swear I look at his empty bowl and think about him, he is probably swimming around shaking his fishy head thinking that I'm still crazy and still talking to myself (at least when he was around I could pretend I was talking to him).
I want to get a Cat too, but I'm still trying to get over my dog (he is with my ex).
Wow, I didn't mean to comment jack your blog, but I just felt bad about Coco and got all sentimental.
p.s. I love the kitty's quote!

My heart goes out to you. It is so very hard to lose one of our family members. Cats are very smart and they do know. They know. May you find comfort in each other.

So sorry to hear about Coco, we understand such as much as the little furry kitties do. When we lost Elliot (our big fat house cat) we cried for quite sometime. Then in the summer of that year right over his grave a sunflower with many flower heads bloomed…I never planted it. I think it was our dear Elly letting us know he was in a beautiful serene place. My daughter Emma drew a digital graphic commemorating him.It is our Elly as an angel flying up to heaven. Feel free to post it on your site if you like. Thanks for the lovely post.
p.s. the picture is on this blog(http:thewwoodbeyondtheworld.blogspot.com) if you scroll down the page.

Your kitties are beautiful! My indoor/outdoor cats would sometimes disappear for 1-3 days (more often the males that we rescued, which were born & spent most of their lives outside) But it is scary, as 1 of my first cats disappeared for 3days, during that 3 day period we had a nasty stormy 24+ hours. when she finally showed up @ home, her face sides & part of her neck were all swollen, & she only wanted to drink, not eat. I took her to the vet, & he said it was Feline leukemia (that was before there was an inoculation for it. We had to put her down, broke my heart. I wasn't going to get another cat, but the kids were bugging me. one night after dropping them off at vacation Bible school I went past a home where they had a sign out saying FREE KITTENS. I went in, they only had 1 female kitten left, & the daughter was clutching her like no one's business. "mama, you said I could keep her" the mother said: "this lady & her children just lost their little girl kitty, she is in Heaven, wouldn't it be nice to give her to them, we still have 2 boy kittens, you can keep one of them." It was sad, but @ the same time, I only wanted the girl.
It turned out BOOTS was meant 2 B with us & lived a very long 17.5 years. She was the most loving & affectionate cat I have ever known. We have loved and lost many pets over the years, mostly cats, it never gets any easier.
I am sorry to hear you have lost one recently.
Peace,
Susan
