Blue Skies Birthday

  Photo quote de jour

Picasso once said it takes a long time to grow young.  As I embrace middle-age, the truth of those words spiral around me and take root. It helps having proof. It's my dear yoga teacher's 70th birthday today, and I can't think of anyone who is growing younger day-by-  day. Tall and reed thin, she reminds me of the dahlias blooming now; graceful and beautiful, breathing in the sunshine, reaching for infinity while rooted in mother earth.

Happy Birthday Debs!

70 is the new 50. 80 the new 60. And for those of us in middle age, 40 is the new 30, 60 the new 40.

Happy Birthday to your Yoga instructor!

I saw Harold and Maude recently and Ruth Gordon was 75 playing an 80 year old. And she looked grand. What spirit! She looked 60. She lived to be 88.

    Kathryn, I love your math!

It does seem like age is just a number anymore. I look at photos of my mother when she was my age, and I certainly don't think I look that "old." Maybe it's denial, but I'm going with it!

Ingrid, it's so true. We will never age like our parents or grandparents.

I love the inspiration of some of the young at heart older people. What lessons they have for those who are younger and aged before their time. Back in college I used to jog a track behind a 70 year old man who was slow and steady and could outrun me anyday. Talk about motivating. Beautiful picture of the flowers!
