Two Obamas and Lincoln

Photo quote de jour

Three boys bounced outside the store with their newly purchased Halloween masks. These regular suburban boys would never dream of chatting with me a middle-aged adult, but wearing their new masks, they exuded a new confidence. They happily posed for me and said, "We're going to be famous!" Their enthusiasm was contagious and I thought why not? In ancient times, warriors wore the heads or masks of their vanquished enemies to give them atavistic power. Maybe by wearing a mask of a famous person like Obama, the whiff of his power will rub off on them. Good harmless fun or is it? Ten or twenty ago, we didn't hear children make blatant
statements like that. We live in a culture of fame, of surface glitz and instant everything. One moment you're on the street having fun with your friends and the next you're splashed on YouTube. Perhaps these boys will learn that best mask is wearing no mask at all.

A moody pumpkin de jour and flower de jour

Glad tout le monde are back safe and sound. Yes, make-up is the oldest mask.

Great shot! Your camera captured a truly spontaneous moment. I prefer the no-mask philosophy myself, though many feel a mask helps bring out one's latent powers.
