The Beauty of Death

Today is dia de los muertos or day of the dead, a Mexican holiday widely celebrated in the U.S. I see it as a continuation of Halloween or Samhain, a time of honoring our ancestors and by honoring death, we celebrate life. The garden is my perennial favorite metaphor and this beautiful compost pile reminds me that from decay will come new life again.

What is death? It is the glass of life broken into a
thousand pieces, where the soul disperses like
perfume from a flask, into the silence of the eternal
night.

Yes, celebrating death is part of life, and I am finally over the sadness of that. Good quote and absolutely beautiful photo.

The beauty of death to me is that it reminds us of the beauty of life. To love and appreciate it while we are still able.
