What I'm Reading This Week - Nov. 7, 2010.
Quote de jour
"The best thing about daylight savings time is one more hour to read."
~LMW
The only thing better than reading in bed, is reading with cats. Merlin and Odin approve of Mentor, a memoir by Tom Grimes. I heartily agree. This is a must read for every writer. He tenderly chronicles his relationship with mentor/friend/writer Frank Conroy, the head of the prestigious Iowa Writer's Program and the price it takes to be a novelist. TomGrimes.com

Huge best-seller Women Food And God by Geneen Roth is catnip for anyone struggling with weight issues. I found nothing new here but it's beautifully written and worth a read if you still haven't made the body/mind/spirit connection between food and fat.

I loved the 2005 French film Heading South about three female tourists who have eye opening experiencing from sociological to sexual while visiting the poverty-stricken and dangerous world of 1970s Haiti. So, it came a pleasant surprise to learn the film was based on a novel by Dany Laferriere, a Haitian born writer living in Montreal and an English translation recently published.

Magazines this week are a blaze of primary colors of political persuasions with some truly scary headlines. You bet change is coming again. How short our collective political memories are. Sara Palin for President? It minds me of a quote by H.L. Mencken."No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public."

Loved the cats and the comment on Daylight Savings time!
Most likely because of dismay about the recent elections.....the one thing out of that display that I would gravitate to would be the Rolling Stone article on Keith Richards!
Always loving what you offer. With gratirude always. Sandra

All the books look great. Especially the book of Cat.
I realize I bought more than a dozen books in the last few months; and checked out half a dozen.
Cold here today. No leaves. Bare November.

K, you'll adore Mentor.

There's nothing better than reading with cats. Looks like Odin has made himself right at home, but even at rest, he looks like he's up to something.

Cats and reading make the purrfect combination. Love the photo of Merlin and Odin. Even at rest, Odin looks mischievous.
I'll have to add Mentor to my reading list - sounds wonderful.
