Don't Shop 'til You Drop

Photo quote de jour

When I nip into Manhattan, I love photographing store windows and their reflective surfaces. (above is Barbara Bui in the West Village). At this time of the year, we're bombarded with advertising, threatening to dissolve logic and good sense. We enter stores and a herd mentality takes over as some of us (not you, you clever reader) grazing over merchandise on sale until we succumb. A bargain is not a bargain if Aunt Alice or Uncle John hates it. I believe holiday shopping requires military precision, lists of sizes, preferences and spending limits. Don't shop on an empty stomach. Wear comfortable shoes and a light jacket. Take the time waiting in line to breathe and repeat a mantra if you have one. Off hours offer smaller crowds or my preference, shopping in July.

If you seriously love fashion, my favorite fashion blog is French but written in English  Purple Fashion Magazine It's the subversive nexus of hip meets happening.

How true that many people approach Christmas by overspending simply to impress relatives that they would rather have the world stop it's rotation and let them off. Nine times out of ten, they hate the gift anyway and it ends up in the next summer's garage sale! Obviously I have specific family members in mind when I say this. In my opinion it is far more practical to find out what someone needs or really wants and get that then waste the money on a bad guess.

But not you-is correct. I do not shop, I have never shopped, I will not shop.

By the way, I love the picture. The juxtaposition of the mannequin (she looks so real, what she's wearing, and the leaves on the tree.

AMEN!!! I hate shopping. Maybe it is a man thing but I have a list checked out on the internet and go to the store only when absolutely the last resort. I cannot graze my skin gets itchy, my hair stands on end, and my patience is not something that should be taken out in public shopping. Patience in line to spend money is something that is a work in progress. I hope you had a wonderful time in Manhattan. It is a unique experience.

    Blessings

Layla, you have me seeing things in a new light, especially reflective surfaces. I visited Purple.fr and loved it, but the screens flash by too fast. I want to really LOOK at them. Thanks for being YOU. pc
