Just Desserts

Photo quote de jour

This cheesecake with cognac marinated raspberries was my contribution to Thanksgiving dinner. I'm big on saving room for dessert, if not eating it first. By knowing about a special dessert in advance helps moderate pigging out during the main course. The killer during the holiday season is sheer excess of food: sweets, chocolate, exotic cheeses, appetizers and dissolver of all self control, booze. After a couple cocktails and wine with dinner will make anyone forget their diet. One tip: sip slowly, talk more eat less, and spend time taking photographs of your pals and the object of your desire.

Layla, I saw this post and could not stop chuckling. I order desserts first when I go out to dine. I went out to eat with several couples. The man next to me ordered cake and ice cream first and then his steak. I asked why and he said, "If I eat the steak then I would not eat dessert. This way I have my dessert and I take most of the steak home to have for another meal. When I go out I want to do something different than just eating normally. Everyday I eat the main course first and never get to the dessert. When I am out and paying for a dinner I want my dessert." I ordered apple pie and ice cream and took my steak home. chuckle chuckle. Ever since then I feel free to order whatever suits my fancy and most often it is dessert. Thank you for your post. Thank you for bringing back the memory.

Desserts like that make the rest of the meal seem a bit superfluous.
