5 Tips For Winter Doldrums
Photo quote de jour

If you feel like crawling into a bear cave until spring, you're not alone. It's cold, snowy and dark here in New York and the mood is sluggish. Spring feels eons away. So what's the cure for the winter doldrums?
It helps knowing that every season, every cycle no matter how dark, has its purpose. Winter is a great time gestate ideas. Plan ahead to achieve something awesome for spring. Until then, my friends do this...
#1-- If you feel like slipping to the dark side, focus on something bright literally. Everyone wears black in New York, but black and gray can be depressing. Brighten up with bright colored scarf, a pop of red lipstick, fresh
flowers and more lights on, or a light box designed for SAD. Look at bright, colorful images on your computer.
#2--Focus on something bright figuratively. No matter how gloomy you feel there is always something positive. Always. Replace each gloomy thought with a sunny one.
#3-- Get away somewhere warm. A tropical beach vacation or a visit to a local day spa. A massage or even a sauna can work wonders. Check day rates at a local hotel.
#4 -- Sleep more. This is a natural time to hibernate. Don't fight it too much. Listen to your body. If you're unusually tired, see your doctor. Most people need more vitamins C an D.
#5-- Laugh more. Go out with friends, see a funny movie, read a funny book, visit a comedy club, play with pets.

This is great, and much needed, advice.
I've found that taking vitamin D can make a big difference - not just with the winter doldrums, but also with a stronger immune system.

Cold as it is, I take a long walk every day. I look at the houses, the snow, the trees. Even in winter, there's so much to see.
